Meet the Team

Managing Editor

Eli Martinez is a fourth-year student majoring in Sociology with a minor in Public Policy. His current research interests include urban marginality, theory, and labor. Eli is a current McNair Scholar and plans on attaining a PhD in Sociology with the end goal of being a full-time researcher and professor at an R1 institution. In his free time, Eli enjoys listening to spoken word performances, laughing with family and friends, and taking scenic drives to nowhere.

Hayley Zupancic is a junior from Los Angeles majoring in Art History and Political Science with a focus on International Relations. She appreciates the interdisciplinary perspective that working on Eleven provides to her studies, particularly in learning about global perspectives on class and shared identity. Hayley plans to attend law school and work in the art world post-graduation. In her free time, she enjoys making overly elaborate desserts, playing RPGs, and creating art with friends.

Sienna Bishop is a senior from Southern California majoring in psychology and minoring in Spanish linguistics and bilingualism. Throughout her four years in Eleven, she is grateful for the opportunity she has had to develop a critical perspective of the structures and systems in place in the world around us. As she continues to explore her interests both inside and outside of sociology, she appreciates the cross-disciplinary lens that it provides. In her free time, Sienna enjoys cooking and baking, watching movies, thrifting, and exploring the Bay Area.

Jessica Shim is a third-year undergraduate student majoring in Sociology and Ethnic Studies, as well as minoring in Global Poverty and Practice. Her interests lie at the intersection of sociology and business, and she hopes to start a company in the future that carries out corporate social responsibility (CSR). During her free time, Jessica likes to cook “creative” food, explore the nature, and watch various genre of films.

Claire Healy is a third-year sociology major with a history minor. She's interested in studying social movements and social psychology, with a general focus on the historical and institutional construction of racial inequality Through her work at Eleven, she hopes to gain greater insight into the research process and discover new topics to inspire her own research! When she's not studying, she loves to bake delicious food, work out, and explore thrift shops.

Magellan Reyes is a third-year transfer student majoring in Anthropology. He is particularly interested in the socio-cultural side of anthropological study and would one day like to participate in long-term ethnographic research. Magellan joined the journal in pursuit of a greater understanding of both the editorial process for academic material, as well as a better comprehension of the methods and synthesis of sociological research. In his spare time, he enjoys reading, watching movies, and wandering around Berkeley with friends.

Kai Steiner is a first-year majoring in Sociology. He is currently interested in topics such as gender division, LGBTQ+ issues, and public education. In his free time, Kai also likes running and making 3D animations.

Molly Jacoby is a second-year majoring in Sociology and Interdisciplinary Studies, with an emphasis on broadcast media and issues of equity and political polarization in media industries. Though she is passionate about qualitative research methods and reading sociological theory, Molly is also a sucker for a good cheesy novel or tv show. When free time presents itself, Molly loves exploring the hiking scene of the Bay Area and the Sierra Nevada's.

Natalie Watanabe is a third-year undergraduate student proudly studying Political Science and Sociology. Her interests include political sociology, law, healthcare, and women’s studies. Natalie strongly believes that sociology is a magical discipline, providing its students with a new lens to understand the world. During her free time, she loves exploring the Bay Area, visiting cafés, and playing her guitar!

Rey Shankar is a first-year, intending to major in Sociology, at UC Berkeley. They are interested in topics regarding gender, sex, and sexuality, and the roles they all play within society. Rey hopes to go to grad school and pursue sociological research in the future. In their free time, they love picking up new craft projects and making little gifts for their friends!

Courtney McIvor is a first-year undergraduate student majoring in Sociology and minoring in Middle Eastern Languages and Cultures. She is interested in social research and justice, especially in an international context and regions that remain largely underserved. In her spare time, she loves listening to music, hiking, and spending time with friends at coffee shops or on picnics!

Genevieve Bellavance (they/them) is a third-year undergraduate student majoring in sociology with minors in LGBTQ+ Studies and Theater & Performance Studies. They are currently working as a research assistant to pursue their interests in the sociology of gender, sexuality, and mental health. Outside of their studies, you can find Genevieve at rehearsal for UC Berkeley’s theater department or listening to Phoebe Bridgers.

Izzy Barba is a first-year undergraduate student intending to study Psychology and Sociology. Amongst many things, she is interested in child development, social psychology, and feminist studies. In her free time, she enjoys attending concerts, trying new foods, going to Trader Joe’s, and being spontaneous with friends. She is looking forward to exploring her interests in sociology through working on Eleven.

Kori Lee is a second year undergraduate student studying Sociology and Media Studies. Their interests lie at the intersection of social justice and creative media. In their spare time, they love playing cozy video games, watching horror movies, and painting.

Richelle Valdez is a third year majoring in Sociology and minoring in Science, Technology, and Society. She is interested in the intersection of social sciences and communication strategies in creating research-driven narratives. In her free time, she likes trying new coffee shops, binging shows in one weekend, and cooking.

Tara Rahai is a second-year undergraduate student majoring in Molecular Cell Biology and Sociology with a minor in Bioengineering. She is interested in researching/combating inequities rooted within healthcare addressing accessibility and treatment. In her spare time, she loves to hike, read, and travel!
